TRP Canada – Deconstruction Crew

Deconstruction Crew

Join The ReUse People of Canada (TRP Canada) in the field. As part of our Deconstruction Crew,
you’ll assist staff in carefully removing lumber, doors, windows, cabinetry, and fixtures for reuse.
This is hands-on work that directly diverts materials from landfill and supplies affordable inventory to the community.

What You’ll Do

  • • Assist with site prep, signage, and safety perimeter
  • • Support selective removal of finishes and fixtures (under staff direction)
  • • Sort, stack, and stage materials for transport; load trucks safely
  • • Basic denailing and cleanup to keep the site efficient and safe

Time & Availability

Deconstruction shifts are project-based and scheduled as opportunities arise — typically weekdays, occasional Saturdays.
Shifts run 4–6 hours. You can volunteer one-off or join a recurring list for upcoming projects.

Training & Safety

No prior deconstruction experience required — we provide:

  • • Onsite orientation and tool safety briefing
  • • Supervision by experienced TRP staff
  • • Personal protective equipment (PPE): gloves, safety glasses, high-vis vest

Requirements

  • • Closed-toe footwear (work boots preferred)
  • • Ability to lift and carry materials (up to ~20–25 kg with team support)
  • • Sign a volunteer waiver and follow all site safety directions
  • • Reliable transport to/from the project site (carpool options often available)

Who It’s For

Great for students in trades or sustainability, retired builders,
and anyone who enjoys hands-on teamwork. You’ll learn real-world material recovery practices
and contribute directly to the circular economy.

Impact: A typical crew day can divert hundreds of kilograms of reusable materials —
from old-growth lumber to high-quality fixtures — keeping value in the community and out of the landfill.
